Book Club The Jeff Davis Parish Book Club discussion group will meet in Jennings on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013 at 10 a.m. to discuss the book “The View From Penthouse B” by Elinor Lipman. Jennings Farmers Market Each Saturday, rain or shine, the Main Street Farmers Market in Jennings is open from 7-10 a.m. in Founders Park. Some items available are fresh vegetables and produce, crafts, baked goods, fresh eggs, canned goods and more. To qualify as a vendor for the Main Street Farmers Market you must make, raise, or grow what you intend to sell. No store bought or import items are allowed. There is no fee to be a vendor, but you must fill out a participation form at the Farmers Market. For more information call Joann at 821-2723.

Benefit BBQ Dinner

Early Voting
Early Voting for the October 19, 2013 Fall Primary Election will be held in Registrar of Voters Office at 302 N. Cutting Ave on the following days: Saturday, October 5, 2013; Closed Sunday, October 6, 2013; Monday, October 7, 2013 thru Saturday, October 12, 2013. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Picture ID is Required for Voting.

October 6
Broussard-Romero Family Reunion
There will be a family reunion for the descendants and relatives of the late John B. Broussard and Victoria Romero. It will be held at the Welsh Fire Hut in Welsh on Sunday, October 6th from 9am until 3pm. Guests are asked to bring a covered dish and drinks for the noon meal.

Fenton School Annual Fall Reunion
Fenton School Annual Fall Reunion for all those who ever attended Fenton school (graduation not required). Meet at Roy’s Catfish Hut, Hwy 165 South of Kinder at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Doors will open at 10:30 a. m. Lunch is Dutch treat. Spouses/friends are welcomed. Dress is casual. Caregiver Support Group
The Alzheimer’s Associations Support Groups will meet on October 9, 2013, 10 am at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Jennings 1 Hospital Drive, Jennings, LA 70546. The Groups are designed to provide emotional, educational and social support for caregivers through regularly scheduled meetings.

Annual Fall Fest Gumbo
Sheriff Ivy Woods is sponsoring the Annual Fall Fest Gumbo on Friday October 11, 2013 from 8am-noon at the Lake Arthur Community Center. It is open to all Senior Citizens of Jeff Davis Parish age 60 and over. For more information call Kim at 824-5504.

Food Pantry
LHCC/Giving Grace Food Pantry, 539 New Orleans Ave., Lake Arthur, distributes emergency food to low income families of Jeff Davis Parish. The next scheduled date is Saturday, October 12, 2013. Open the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. – 12 noon.

October 14 Bulk Trash Pickup Allied Waste will begin their monthly scheduled “white goods,” yard waste and bulky items trash collection on Monday, Oct. 14. Residents should place their bulky trash, limbs and white goods items by the curbside by, Sunday, Oct. 13. FYI Class
Crocheting class will be held at the Jefferson Davis Parish Library, 118 W. Plaquemine St., Jennings at 5:30. Take home your own “scrubby” as avid crocheter Susan Sylvester calls it! Made using the Tunisian stitch, the “scrubby” can be used as a pot holder or a face scrubber. Supply fee $5.

Cancer Awareness Luncheon
The community of Fenton will be having their Third Annual Cancer Awareness Luncheon on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 11 am. This event will be held at Greater St. Joseph Ministry. Any cancer survivor and a guess will be welcome to attend this luncheon sponsored by Alderwoman Mary Jones of Fenton, and First Lady Sandra Alfred, wife of Fenton Mayor Eddie Alfred.

Breast Cancer Awareness
Cancer Center of Acadiana at American Legion Hospital will hold Breast Cancer Awareness Community Luncheon with guest speakers Victoria Panelli, M.D., Darin Doumite, M.D. and Amanda Ellington, M.D. on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 12 pm at Grand Marais Ballroom, 919 N, Lake Arthur Ave., Jennings and lunch catered by Mike’s Seafood and Steakhouse. The 4th Annual Melissa Doise Hope for the Miracle Run will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013. It will begin at 321 E. Plaquemine (Jeff Davis Parish Court House parking lot).
