Farm Bill expert gives assumptions for rice industry

The current Farm Bill (FB) expires Monday and it is likely that new FB legislation will not be ready until all programs end on December 31. Along with upcoming debt ceiling deliberations, the new five-year FB has been a chosen battleground of reform between party lines. Currently, the FB is mired in legislation debates and disagreements between the Republican held House and Democratically held Senate, resulting in a multiyear stalemate; but a compromise is beginning to be outlined.

Earlier this month, the Jeff Davis Parish Rice Growers Association (RGA) held their annual meeting at the Welsh Fire Hut to share a meal, talk farming and association business, and listen to guest speaker Kyle McCann update the crowd on FB legislation.
