Velma Jane Menard Miller
The family and friends of Velma Jane Menard Miller are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life and was embraced in the arms of Jesus on Sept. 12, 2013, at the age of 81.
A Mass of Christian burial celebrating Mrs. Velma’s life was held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Evangeline on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. Mrs. Velma was laid to eternal rest in St. Joseph Cemetery. Father David Broussard officiated her services.
Velma Jane was born in Church Point to the late Calise Menard and the late Rena Doucet Menard on Dec. 20, 1931. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to taking care of her beloved husband, Elbey, and raising their three children. She was a very kind and loving person who was dearly loved by all who were blessed to have known her. Mrs. Velma was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Ladies Altar Society, a prayer group, and was a Eucharistic Minister. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and working in her yard.
Mrs. Velma is survived by her son, Jody (Faye) Miller of Panchoville; her two daughters, Gwen Miller of Evangeline, and Trudy M. (Fred) Crochet of Gott’s Cove; three of her brothers, Leander “Jovy” Menard of Lake Charles, Willard (Carlyiss) Menard of Lake Charles, and Fred “Jimmy” Menard of Crowley; eight grandchildren, Lisa Fontenot, Bo, Blake and Trent Crochet, Roxane Fontenot, Emily Bertrand, and Amber and Ross Miller; and her 16 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Calise and Rena D. Menard; her husband, Elbey Joseph Miller; and one brother, Euell Menard.
A gathering of Mrs. Velma Jane Menard Miller’s family and friends to bid their final farewell to her was held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, from 5-9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Visitation resumed on Saturday at 8 a.m. until the time of her funeral mass at 11 a.m.
