John Voris Harmon Jr.
Funeral services for John Voris Harmon Jr., 40, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, in David James and Rosa Fondel Church Chapel at Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings. Rev. Gerald Perkins will officiate. Burial will be in Benevolent Cemetery under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. Friday in the chapel until time of services.
He was employed by Lee Vac Industries Shipyard, where he was recently promoted as a foreman,
Mr. Harmon, a native of Jennings, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, in his residence. He was a 1992 graduate of Jennings High School and he had a track and field jr. high record that has not been broken. He was a certified welder from the time he graduated from high school. In high school he was a basketball player known as “Slamming #30”.
Survivors include his wife, Shaunta E. Harmon; six children, Keondre’ T.L. Harmon, Johntaje’ S. Harmon, John V. Harmon III, Dre’Raiel L. Harmon, Kei’Raiel D. Harmon and D’Eondre T. Harmon, all of Jennings; one grandchild, Stone A.S. Harmon of Elton; three brothers and seven sisters, Angelia Harmon of Cheverly, Ma., Yolonda Harmon of Long Beach, Calif., Shirley Freeman of Wilminton, Del., Laresha Harmon of Sacramento, Calif., Doris Riley of Jennings, Joseph Riley, Henry Riley III, James Harmon and Linda Berry, all of Jennings, and Kayla Janice of Germany; his godparents, James and Shirley Harmon, who reared him when his mother passed; and four godchildren.
