5K Coming Home Run/Walk
The Welsh Rotary Coming Home 5K Run/Walk will be Saturday, Nov. 2. Register early at welshrotary.org, active.com or on Facebook – Welsh Rotary Coming Home 5K Run/Walk for $20 or the morning of the Run for $25. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the Town Hall, 201 South Elms Street.
National Guard Armory
A garage sale benefiting local area veterans will be held Sat., Nov. 2nd at the National Guard Armory from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Lots of everything available.

Women’s World Day of Prayer
Union Baptist Church of Jennings will hold its Annual Baptist Women’s “World Day of Prayer” on Nov. 4, 2013. The Church located at 1014 S. Main will be opened for prayer during the day beginning at 7 a.m. The theme is “In Step with the Spirit through……LOVE”. American Legion Meeting
James O. Hall Post 19 of the American Legion, Department of Louisiana, will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 beginning at 6 p.m. The meeting will be conducted at the American Legion Hall located at 111 N. Market Street here in Jennings . The Post’s Ladies Auxiliary will also meet on the same date and at the same time and location. Any military veteran who is considering joining the Legion is invited to attend the Post’s meeting in order to find out more about this patriotic organization. A Benefit for Mary E. Cole will be held at Jennings United Methodist Church at 702 N. Cary Ave in the fellowship hall on Nov. 5, 2013 from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. BBQ Plate Lunches will be $7 consisting of Pork or Chicken, potato salad, baked beans, green beans and rice dressing. Annual Holiday Program
The Jeff Davis Volunteers for Family and Community Annual Holiday Program will be Nov. 8, 2013 at 9 a.m. at the LSU AgCenter. Tickets are $10 and are available at the AgCenter. Proceeds are used to fund volunteer activities in our community.
LHCC/Giving Grace Food Pantry, 539 New Orleans Ave., Lake Arthur, distributes emergency food to low income families of Jeff Davis Parish. The next scheduled date is Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013. Open the second Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. – 12 noon.
Saint Paul Catholic Church in Elton will hold its Fall Bazaar Sat., Nov. 9th after 5 p.m. Mass and Sun., Nov. 10th after 10 a.m. Mass.
On Saturday morning, November 9, the American Legion Post #283 will host a Plaque Dedication at Veterans Park at 9:00 AM. It will be followed by a Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Welsh Museum . Refreshments will be served. The public is invited.
The Optimist Club of Jennings and Bubba Oustalet Chevrolet will host a free driver awareness course, geared toward young drivers, to make them aware of many of the responsibilities, requirements and importance of many issues relating to ownership of a driver’s license and vehicle. The event will cover many topics such as checking oil, radiator, battery and belt, changing a flat tire, checking/cleaning/changing wiper blades and fluid, applying for loans and insurance and more. November 11 Bulk Trash Pickup Allied Waste will begin their monthly scheduled “white goods,” yard waste and bulky items trash collection on Monday, Nov. 11. Residents should place their bulky trash, limbs and white goods items by the curbside by, Sunday, Nov. 10. Toys for Tots Registration
Registration for Christmas toy assistance through Toys for Tots will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the ASSIST Agency on Nezpique Street in Jennings. Children ages 1-12 are eligible to participate if they live in a household whose income does not exceed the 2013 HHS monthly income guidelines. For more information, call 824-7800.
Caregiver Support Group
The Alzheimer’s Associations Support Groups will meet on Nov. 13, 2013, 10 a.m. at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Jennings, 1 Hospital Drive, Jennings, LA 70546. The Groups are designed to provide emotional, educational and social support for caregivers through regularly scheduled meetings.
Signing class will be held at Jefferson Davis Parish Library, 118 W. Plaquemine St., Jennings at 5:30. Learn to sign the alphabet, basic communication signs and the song “Silent Night” in this class with experienced “signer” Kay Hebert. Teenagers are welcome in this class if attended with an adult.
Community Foundation of Acadiana’s (CFA third-annual Leaders in Philanthropy Awards Luncheon will be held on Nov. 15, 2013, National Philanthropy Day, at the Cajundome Convention Center in Lafayette from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. CFA will present awards to individuals or couples from each of its eight parish service-areas who have made an impact in their communities.
St. Francis School Fall Bazaar
St. Francis School in Iota will be hosting their annual Fall Bazaar on Nov. 16 & 17, 2013. Activities begin Saturday with a 5K run at 8 a.m. Opening ceremonies will be at 10 a.m. in the school courtyard. Saturday night come and listen to the sounds of Colby Latiolais and Ambush from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. On Sunday, Nov. 17th, we will have BBQ Chicken dinners available for $8 per plate. O.L.H.C., 710 State Street, Jennings, will hold their annual Catholic Daughters and Ladies Altar Society fund raiser after all masses on Nov. 23rd and 24th. Sweets and freezable side dishes of all kinds just in time for Thanksgiving.
The 31st Annual Jennings Mr. and Miss Merry Christmas Pageant will be held in Jennings at the KC Hall on Highway 102 on Nov. 24, 2013.
