Dogs take District Champs title

It was a special night in Jerry Simmons Stadium Friday. The veterans were honored, it was Senior Night and former Jennings High great Ken Cormier had his jersey re-retired at halftime. The Jennings Bulldogs did not want to be left out of the festivities so they put on a show themselves, much to the delight of their fans. With the district championship on the line, they brought the trophy home, defeating their archrival Westlake Rams 41-20. The win gave the Dogs their first outright district championship since 2002.

“My hat’s off to the players and the coaches. You think back six weeks ago when we were one and three and had lost three games by six points,” Head Dog Rusty Phelps said. “We refused to give in. That’s tradition, pride and commitment to the program.”
