The family and friends of Gustav “Willie” Godeaux are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life while in the comfort of his home surrounded by his beloved family on Nov. 4, 2013, at the age of 62.
A mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Mermentau on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Father Randall Moreau officiating.
Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings beginning today, Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 2-9 p.m. with a rosary recited by Father Moreau at 7 p.m. Visiting hours will resume on Thursday at 9 a.m. until the time of his funeral mass at 11 a.m.
Willie was born in Jennings to Gus Godeaux and Eudia Cormier Godeaux on Feb. 10, 1951. He worked as a manager for an offshore petroleum company for many years, earning the profound respect of his fellow employees. He had a fun-loving personality and loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. Willie enjoyed being outdoors and loved to hunt. He also had a passion for music. He loved playing the guitar and acquired the nickname “Fuzzy” from his fellow musicians. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
Willie is survived by his wife, Irene Espinoza Godeaux of Mermentau; his three stepdaughters, Rosalinda Catacora of Katy, Texas, Veronica Echeverry of Cypress, Texas, and Yolanda Meyers George of West, Texas; one brother, Gerald Godeaux of Mermentau; three sisters, Shelby Marias of Mermentau, Gay Devine Guidry, also of Mermentau, and Coreada Hoffpauir of Roberts Cove; his eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Willie now rests in Heaven with his family who preceded him in death: his parents, Gus and Eudia C. Godeaux; and a brother, Gary Godeaux.
Serving as pallbearers will be Gordon Maris, Terry Moore, Waldi Echeverry, Lucho Catacora, Norris Gotreaux and Phillip Godeaux. Honorary pallbearers will include Adam Hoffpauir and Adam Espinoza.
