LAKE ARTHUR – The family and friends of Nelson Adam Joseph Hebert are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life on Nov. 1, 2013, at the age of 74.
Funeral services were held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Lake Arthur today, Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at 10 a.m. with Deacon Mike Tramel officiating. Burial followed in Lakeview Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home on Monday, Nov. 4 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of his funeral services on Tuesday. A rosary was recited by Carrie Thibodeaux on Monday evening at 7 p.m.
Nelson was born in Gueydan to Gaston Hebert and Marie Hebert on Aug. 18, 1939. He worked as a boat captain for 41 years until completing his career in retirement. He was a very hard worker and enjoyed his job. He also enjoyed helping out at the VFW. Nelson loved spending time with his family who will miss him dearly.
Nelson is survived by his two sons, John “Sonny Boy” Breaux and Brian (Jennifer) Breaux, both of Lake Arthur; four daughters, Cindy (Mike) Bourgeois of Lake Arthur, Delores (Teeter)Menard, also of Lake Arthur, Pamela (Allen “Wally”) Thibodeaux of Gueydan, and Lynnette (Daryl) Hale of Lake Arthur; one brother, Thomas Hebert of Gueydan; two sisters, Clotile (Black) Ryder and Bertha Fuselier, both of Lake Arthur; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and nine great great-grandchildren.
Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, Gaston and Marie Hebert; his first wife, Dorothy Reed Hebert; his second wife, Hazel Mott Hebert; two brothers, Robert and Frank Hebert; two sisters, Clarice Ryder and Clarbell Spencer; and a granddaughter, Regina Vincent.
Carrying Nelson to his eternal resting place were Brandon Breaux, Sonny Breaux, Mike Bourgeois, Kevin Vincent, Robert Vincent and Nakia Menard. Honorary pallbearers were Kim Vincent and Shanika Turner.
