James Richard Newman
IOTA – Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Iota for James Richard “Jimmie” Newman, 88, who died Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at 7:04 a.m. in Jennings.
Fr. David Broussard, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Evangeline, will officiate the services.
The family requests visiting hours begin today, Sunday, Dec. 8, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and continue Monday from 8 a.m. to time of services. A rosary will be recited today, Sunday, at 7 p.m. at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Iota. Burial will be in Reed Cemetery.
Mr. Newman was a native of Frankston, Texas, and a longtime resident of Iota. He served his country during World War II in the US Navy. He was a life member of American Legion Post #371 in Iota; a member of 40/8; and Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Newman is survived by three daughters, Elaine (Alvin) Cearley of Smithville, Texas, Sharon (Randy) Klumpp of Jennings, Nancy (Greg) Dugas of Jennings; two sons, James “Bobby” (Cynthia) Newman of Cut and Shoot, Texas, Jim (Maria) Newman of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Ruth (Tommy) Meyka of Splendora, Texas, Faye (Jimmy) Hall of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Cecil “Peanut” Newman of Houston, Texas, and Raymond Newman of LaGrange, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Nancy Hopper Newman; and three brothers, David, Lester and Billy Newman.
Pallbearers will be Chad Klumpp, Jeremy Klumpp and other family members.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Newman, James “Bobby” Newman, Randy Klumpp, Greg Dugas, Peter Wyro and Alvin Cearley.
