Resident Discusses Military
To the editor,
A recent headline of the Town Talk newspaper, 29 Nov. 2013. “Cuts could close commissaries”. The proclamation is the first shot over the bow, but only one of many affecting our U.S. Military.
I wonder how this will affect Fort Polk, which is in the process of constructing a new multi-million dollar commissary! As I begin writing this, I just heard first time on the TV news, will the cuts downgrading our military ever quit? Our military readiness is already at a dangerous low ebb, to include its moral.
Why is our military being reduced in every way? At the same time they still want to expand military bases. Several months ago we learned from our U.S. Rep. John Fleming that the government wants to purchase another 100,000 acres in central Louisiana, expanding Fort Polk, why?
I have no problem with the Fort Polk proper, but I am strongly against this additional loud grab. It’s past time to support our troops, it’s past time to commit our troops to a no-win commitment, political wars. This should be a time of healing for our troops and America.
There are altogether too many broken bodies, in mind and in spirit. It’s time to bring them home, it’s time to properly care for the sick and wounded.
When we see our government spending more on property for the military and at the same time neglect to properly care for the ones that have been in the battle, there is something wrong with this picture.
“Politics is war without bloodshed, while war is politics with bloodshed.” Mao Zedong, 1893-1976
This seems to be where, our America is at today.
