Tommie Howard Leger
Funeral services will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. honoring the life of Mrs. Tommie Howard Leger, 81. She will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery with Father Charles McMillin officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will be observed at Matthews and Son Funeral Home today, Thursday, Dec. 5, from 3:30-9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. by Deacon Mike Tramel. Visitation will resume on Friday, Dec. 6, at 9 a.m. until the time of her services.
She died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at her residence.
Tommie was born in Jennings to the late James Nelsen Howard and the late Agnes Baker Howard. She was a teacher’s assistant for special needs children for both the elementary and junior high schools. Tommie loved genealogy, reading and sewing. She was a past member of the Ladies Altar Society of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Tommie is survived by her husband, John W. Leger of Jennings; four daughters, Jennifer Leger (Kenneth) Marcantel and Christine Leger Christina, both of Jennings; Paula Leger (John) Pope of Sugarland, Texas, and Flori Leger (Brett) Rhodes of Luling; one sister, Gaynell Baudoin of Lafayette; and her four grandchildren, Lauren Christina, Claire Pope, J.D. Pope and Kyle Pope.
Tommie was welcomed into Heaven by her beloved family who preceded her in death: her parents, James and Agnes Howard; one son, John W. Leger Jr.; one daughter, Susan Ann Leger; one brother, A.J. Howard; and one sister, Dorothy Miller.
Carrying Mrs. Tommie to her final resting place will be Kenneth Marcantel, Brett Rhodes, Kyle Howard, Larry Douget, Kyle Pope and J.D. Pope.
