James Adam Benoit
Funeral services for James Adam Benoit, 86, of Jennings, will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Deacon Mike Tramel officiating.
Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home today, Tuesday, Jan. 7 from 2:30-9 p.m. with a rosary recited on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. James will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery where he will be honored with full military rites.
James Adam was born in Lowry on March 13, 1927, to the late Alecta Benoit and the late Joseph Benoit and was called to his Heavenly Father on Jan. 6, 2014. James served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII. He was also as a tugboat captain for 40 years until his retirement. During his time home, he loved spending it with his beloved family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards. He was a very skillful carpenter and loved working with wood. James was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
He was survived by his beloved family: one son, Henry (Elaine) Benoit of Lake Arthur; one daughter, Doris Benoit (Harris) Chaisson of Hathaway; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alecta Benoit; his wife, Lovenia Touchet Benoit; four sons, Floyd, Carl, Daniel and Roy Allen Benoit; one grandson, Jason Benoit; three sisters, Frances Billeaud, Althea Guidry and Esprie Touchet; and one brother, Leroy Benoit.
