Joseph Elite “Nell” Richard
Funeral services for Joseph Elite “Nell” Richard, 75, will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at 12:30 p.m. with the Very Reverend Anthony Fontenot officiating.
Joseph “Nell” was called to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014. The Richard family request that visitation be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, from 10 a.m. until midnight. A rosary will be led by Deacon Bennett McNeal on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at 8 a.m. until time of his service. He will be laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Joseph “Nell” was born on June 11, 1938, in Church Point to the late Robert Richard and the late Delphine Richard. Joseph was known by his family and friends as “Nell”. He worked in the oilfield and retired as a truck driver for Service Truck Line. He liked to fish and go out dancing. He also enjoyed going to the Casino. “Nell” loved to eat and enjoyed drinking coffee and visiting with his friends and loved ones. Joseph “Nell” never met a stranger and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Joseph “Nell” is survived by his beloved wife, Myrna Morvant Richard of Jennings; one son, Mark Richard and his wife, Kalena, of Thomasville, GA; one daughter, Stephanie Velasquez and her husband, Gabriel “Gabe”, of Natalia, Texas; one step-son, Shane Guidry and his wife, Ashley, of Iota; and one step-daughter, Jeanita Guidry of Hathaway; one brother, Louis J. Richard of Jennings; one grandchild, Alexander Velasquez of Natalia, Texas; and five step-grandchildren, Aaron Guidry, Daylon Guidry, Aundrea Gary, Tyler Gary and Jase Guidry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Delphine Richard; one sister, Verna Higginbottom; three brothers, Irvin Richard, Mervin Richard and Hilton Richard; his first wife, Lois Clement Richard; and one step-grandchild, Shayna Guidry.
Carrying Joseph “Nell” to his eternal resting place will be Mark Richard, Gabriel Velasquez, Shane Guidry, Aaron Guidry, LeRoy Morvant and Tyler Gary. Honorary pallbearers will be Alexander Velasquez, Aundrea Gary and Daylon Guidry.
