A Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Alvin Lopez, 87, of Jennings, will be held at Our Lady Help of Christian Catholic Church on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at 10 a.m. with Father Charles McMillin officiating.
The Lopez family requests that visitation be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings today, Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, from 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday at 8 a.m. until the time of his services at 10 a.m. Mr. Alvin will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Alvin passed away on Feb. 6, 2014, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born in Hathaway on Dec. 20, 1926, to the late Nessy Lopez and the late Mary Alite Deshotel Lopez.
Mr. Alvin served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was a retired carpenter and loved to do woodwork. He was a devoted member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church. He enjoyed visiting the livestock sale barn in Kinder. He loved to cook and dance. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
He is survived by his two wonderful daughters, Wanda (Bryan) Benoit of Crowley and Christine (Rayford) Fontenot of Welsh; his four grandchildren, Beau James Fontenot of Welsh, Amanda Leigh Benoit of Crowley, Tyler John (Lauren) Fontenot of Welsh and Michael Todd Benoit of Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Lloyd “L.G.” (Bobbie) Lopez of Sulphur; and one sister-in-law, Shirley Lopez of Jennings.
Mr. Lopez was preceded in death by his parents, Nessy and Alite Lopez; his wife, Mary Gertie Vallo Lopez; and one brother, Elroy Lopez.
Carrying Mr. Lopez to his eternal resting place will be Beau James Fontenot, Tyler John Fontenot, Michael Todd Benoit, Greg Lopez, Milton Reese Jr., Kevin Reese, Chad Vallo and Robbie Vallo. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Collard, John Reed, Harry Jeanise and Sam Crochet
