Chester Joseph DeRouen
A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Chester Joseph “Chet” DeRouen, 76, of Jennings, at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at 10 a.m. with Father Charles McMillin officiating.
Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, from 3-9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. The DeRouen family requests visitation to resume on Saturday at 8 a.m. until the time of his services. Chester will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.
He passed away on Feb. 16, 2014.
Chester was born in Jennings on Nov. 2, 1937, to the late Louis and Ida DeRouen. Chester was a retired gauger and quality control specialist for Chevron for 28-1/2 years. He served the country honorably in the National Guard and the United States Army. He was a devoted member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church where he was also a fill-in usher. He was a member of the Louisiana Cattlemen and Jeff Davis Cattlemen Association. Chester loved the outdoors and spent 22 years as a full-time, self-employed cattleman-rancher. He enjoyed raising his cattle and tending to his ranch with his tractor. His love and passion was being with his family and dancing. Chester had many friends and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed.
Chester is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Barbara Lane Trahan DeRouen of Jennings; two sons, Richie Kyle (Carolyn Perry) DeRouen of Plano, Texas, and Rory Kip DeRouen of Eagle, Idaho; two daughters, Tanya Danee’ DeRouen of Texas and Nikki Gerelle (Bryan) Jacobs of Justin, Texas; and one brother, Forrest L. (Alice) DeRouen of Pasadena, Texas. He also leaves behind to cherish his memories, four beautiful grandchildren: Alanee and Elliott DeRouen of Boise, Idaho, and Nikolas and Bryn Jacobs of Justin, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Ida Kratzer DeRouen; one infant granddaughter, Misti Ann Myers; a special uncle, Murphy “Nonc Murph” DeRouen; his parental grandparents, Adam and Alida DeRouen; and his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Amanda Kratzer.
Serving as pallbearers will be Richie DeRouen, Kip DeRouen, Kenny Dupont, Tom Broussard, Bryan Jacobs, Neal DeRouen, Rodney Ringuet and Donovan Bergeaux.
Honorary pallbearers will be Nikolas Jacobs, Forrest DeRouen, Daimon “Dickie” Parsley, Al LeBlanc and Don LeBlanc.
