George Wilbur was born in Denver, Colo., on Feb. 10, 1930, to the late George W. Collard Sr. and the late Laverne Dalyrumple Collard. At the age of 15, he started driving a wrecker for his father. He then joined the Navy, where he served in the Korean War. After his service days, he worked for his father. After his father died, Bill took over the family business of Bill’s Auto in Lake Charles. He later moved to Lafayette where he worked for Farm Oil Truck & Tractor. In 1965, he went to work for PGAC/Dresser Atlas. It wasn’t until his later years that Bill started his own business, Roadmaster Towing, where he retired. He then went back to work in the wrecker service business as owner of Bill’s Wrecker Service, until he finally retired at the age of 70. Bill was a life member of the American Legion Post 1 of Lake Charles. He loved cutting grass and spending time in his yard. He enjoyed riding his golf cart and working on things. He also liked to hunt. Bill had many friends and never met a stranger.
