The family and friends of Nolan Gatte are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life on Feb. 3, 2014, after battling cancer for six months. Nolan was 76 years old.
Nolan was born in Evangeline to the late Durel Gatte and the late Ruby Gatte on March 6, 1937. Nolan managed Mom’s Cajun Kitchen from 1973 until 1975; he then bought and owned Percy’s Fried Chicken for 17 years, from 1975 until 1991. While he still owned Percy’s, he opened and was the owner of Gottson Oil and Construction Co. of Evangeline from 1984 until 2010. Nolan loved to ride his motorcycle and restore antique cars. He loved to travel and he enjoyed flying. He never met a stranger and loved his friends and family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Nolan is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Iris Richard Gatte of Evangeline; two sons, Nacis (Patty) Gatte of Evangeline and Fralan “Todd” (Vickie) Gatte of Evangeline; three brothers, Durel “Red” (Nita) Gatte, Danny (Elsie) Gatte and Rudy (Shelly) Gatte, all three of Gott’s Cove; one sister, Kevanie (Walter) Zinn of Gott’s Cove; five grandchildren, Christopher (Brandy) Johnson, Dana (Glenn) Daigle, Heather (Dakota) Roemer, Benjamin (Ashley) Gatte and Fralan “T.J.” (Caitlin) Gatte; and seven great-grandchildren, Chrislynn, Macee and Avery Johnson and Gage, Tate, Brant and Addalie Daigle.
Nolan was preceded in death by his parents, Durel and Ruby Gatte; one daughter, Raenetta Johnson; and two brothers, Sheryl Gatte and Ricky Gatte.
Funeral sevices will be held at First Baptist Church in Jennings on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at 2 p.m. with Reverend Jerry Masters and Reverend James Townley officiating. Burial will follow in Gatte Cemetery.
The Gatte family requests visitation to be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings today, Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, from 3-11 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday at 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral services.
Carrying Nolan to his eternal resting place will be Christopher Johnson, Benjamin Gatte, T.J. Gatte, Glenn Daigle Jr., Dakota Roemer, B.J. Gatte and Rustyn Bergeaux. Honorary pallbearers will be his three brothers, Durel, Danny and Rudy Gatte.
