We are all overjoyed that a prisoner of war has been freed, but wonder at what price.
I feel that this was more about raising President Obama’s popularity which had been constantly declining rather than about the soldier’s welfare. In other words possibly a two pronged self-serving motivation – improving his popularity and also decreasing the population at Guantanamo Bay which furthers his plan to close the facility.
The president’s clean air only applies to us here in the states, not to any of the real polluters such as China, Russia and others. It will not improve this Earth’s atmosphere, but is only a pipedream of political reality. His plan to increase the regulations on energy sources such as oil and coal will kill many jobs which will throw our economy into a downward spiral leaving many with no jobs and energy costs high for folks trying to heat their homes or drive their cars to the jobs they do have.
So many of his policies seem to me to be self-serving at the cost of others.
The question I ask myself is, has he used this imprisoned soldier to free those who are sworn to destroy us in order to start closing down Guantanamo? Was he really concerned about this man or was he simply a toy of politics?
What about other Americans who are imprisoned elsewhere? The woman with an infant and small child who are American citizens since she is married to a citizen, the American pastor who was imprisoned for his mission work, and the soldier in Mexico that took a wrong turn? Has he even picked up the phone to call the leaders of these countries to try to free them?
