The National Organization of Rare Diseases [NORD] Database provides brief introductions for patients and their families to more than 1,200 rare diseases. This is not a comprehensive database since there are nearly 7,000 diseases considered rare in the United States. Rare diseases do not get the attention as more common diseases do; however, according to those afflicted and their loved ones, the rarity of the disease does not diminish the severity of it. In reality, it is often extremely difficult to find experts to manage the disease.

The Fox family battles every day with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC). Their youngest son, Slade, was diagnosed with AMC at birth.
