Happy Birthday, America
The Way I See It
by DON WEST
“We the people of the United States of America, in order to form a more perfect union…”
Tomorrow will be the 238th birthday of this auspicious moment in history. The words that begin the Preamble to the Constitution of our nation are much more than just words on a piece of paper. They are the very core upon which our forefathers based the founding principles by which to guide this nation on its course through history.
Before, and since, that day, hundreds of thousands of men and women have written a check to this nation to serve and protect, up to and including death, in order to preserve and protect those who believe in the principles of freedom. It behooves us to, at least annually, stop and thank God for these freedoms and thank those who have sacrificed so much to preserve them.
Join the parade, shoot off the fireworks, pound your drum, blow your horn, and proudly display your flag to show the world that America is proud to be the freedom symbol of the world. There are those who have attempted to take those freedoms from us, some within our own government, but the strength and resolve of the American people, though sometime wavering, comes from the fortitude of our forefathers, who boldly wrote and adopted in the Continental Congress, that document which today, 238 years later, still stands as a symbol of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It is the very reason we actually have an immigration problem and the world is beating a path to our doorstep.
Pass the pride to your children and grandchildren by teaching them respect for the flag and showing reverence when our National Anthem is played and sung. Make sure they truly understand the sacrifices made through the battles fought and the blood shed that this nation is truly worth our show of respect. We are the greatest nation in the world, and though we stumble and fall, we have yet to fail to get up, dust ourselves off and continue the march to make this “a more perfect union.”
God Bless all of you and God Bless America.
Happy Birthday, America.
