Junuis Rivers Fontenot
GUEYDAN – A Mass of Christian burial for Junuis Rivers Fontenot, 88, of Gueydan, will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Gueydan on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at 10 a.m. with Father Corey Campeaux officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Gueydan today, Friday, July 25, 2014, from 2:30-9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday at 8 a.m. until the time of his services. Burial will follow in Gueydan Cemetery, where Junuis will be laid to rest with full military rites.
Junuis was born on Oct. 19, 1925, to the late Rivers Fontenot and the late Carrie Courts Fontenot in Jennings.
He passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014, at the Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital. Junuis served the country honorably in the Navy during World War II. He loved being outdoors, hunting and fishing in his younger years. Junuis loved watching western movies, but he especially loved spending time with his great-grandchildren.
Junuis is survived by one daughter, Gloria (Freddie) Babin of Gueydan; one sister, Barbara Touchet of Gueydan; and three grandchildren, Chelsie Trahan, Kristin Fontenot and Jennifer Babin. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory, 12 beautiful great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Rivers Fontenot and Carrie C. Johnson; his beloved wife, Gladys Fontenot; his two sons, Jasper and Ricky Fontenot; one grandson, Shaun Fontenot; one sister, Carolyn Nichols; and three brothers, Donald, Jasper and Richard.
