Pepper celebrates 85th birthday
Virginia Sonnier Pepper, longtime Jennings resident, celebrated her 85th birthday recently with a party hosted in her honor. The 12th of 15 children, Pepper was born on May 15, 1929, to Ella and Julien Sonnier in Duson.
She married (the late) Pierre Pepper after he returned from World War II. The couple had six daughters, Peppie, Marilyn, Clara, Carol, Janet and Rose (now deceased).
Pepper enjoyed celebrating her life with family and friends. There were over 140 people in attendance, including 12 of her 17 grandchhildren and 13 of her 27 great-grandchildren. She also has five great-great grandchildren.
Although she is now a resident of Lafayette, several of her friends and neighbors from Jennings attended the party, including her sister, Helen Pastor of Crowley. Her brother, Pierre Sonnier of Welsh was unable to attend.
Guests enjoyed boat tours of Lake Arthur, rafting, kayaking, water-sliding, dancing to great Cajun music, face-painting, a tropical photo-booth, and socializing with old friends and family, as well as Southern fried fish and barbecued brisket with all the trimmings.
The party, held at the Pepper family lake house in Lake Arthur, was hosted by her children and their spouses, Peppie and Ernie Peoples of Clear Lake, Texas; Marilyn and Doc Brunt of Lafayette; Clara Blalock of Westlake, Carol and Warren Ray of Lafayette; Janet and Glenn Ray of ;roussard; and her son-in-law, Dale Comeaux, husband of the late Rose Pepper Comeaux.
