WELSH – Pierre Sonnier, 88, of Welsh, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2014, in a local care center surrounded by his family.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Welsh. Father Trouille will officiate.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2014, from 2-9 p.m. at Hixson Funeral home, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday from 8 a.m. until leaving for church. Burial will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Welsh.
He was born on March 5, 1926, in Duson, to Julien and Ella (Comeaux) Sonnier.
Pierre served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was honorably discharged in 1946. His career in welding was his passion and he was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. Pierre enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed morning coffee and afternoon visits with friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clariel and Lawrence Sonnier; and four sisters, Beulah Bourque, Lorice Carrier, Frances Gotreaux and Lula Mae Cancienne.
He is survived by his wife, Amy Sonnier of Welsh; two sons, Patrick (Kimberly) Sonnier of Hathaway and Stephen Sonnier of Welsh; and two daughters, Mildred (Kenneth) Johns and Peggy (Robert) Saucier, both of Sulphur. Also surviving are two sisters, Virginia Pepper and Helen Pastor; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
