Sam James Hickman
Funeral services for Sam James Hickman, 65, of Welsh, were held today, Thursday, July 10, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings with Reverend Mitchell Gotte officiating his services. Burial followed in Langley Cemetery in Basile where Sam will be honored with full military rites.
The Hickman family requested visitation to be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, from 4:30-10 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Visitation resumed today, Thursday, at 8 a.m. until the time of his services at 2 p.m.
Sam passed away on the morning of Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at his residence.
He was born in Jennings on Nov. 2, 1948.
Sam served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Masons, Masonic Lodge # 349 of Elton and a member of the Shriners Habibi Temple. He retired after 22 years with Penrod Oil Company as a driller. Sam loved his family with all his heart and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Sam is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Vicky Bertrand Hickman of Welsh; two sons, Fareon (Rachel) Hickman of Crowley and Shelton LaCombe Jr. of Topsy; two daughters, Regina Hickman of Lacassine and Candince (Craig) LaCombe Landry of Jennings; four sisters, Martha Guillot, Vergie (James) Leger and Aldia LaComb, all of Jennings and Maydel (Darrell) Egbert of Hornbeck; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous friends that he held dear to his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, C. Prien Hickman and Glia Benoit Hickman; his three sons, Chess Wayne Hickman, Strodey Paul Hickman and Dayland Wayne Hickman; two brothers, Nelson Istre and Riley Hickman; and one sister, Melta Mae Istre.
