Donald “Don” Michael Courts, 74, died on Monday, August 25, 2014, at his residence in St. Francisville.

He was born in Jennings. He retired from Angola State Prison in 2011 after 35 years as the pharmacy director.

Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in St. Francisville from 5-8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings from 5-9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary. Visitation will continue on Friday, August 29, 2014, at Matthews and Son Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. followed by an 11 a.m. Mass at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Jennings.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Melinda Daniel Courts; his former wife, Norma Courts; his daughters, Rachel Wheeler of Prairieville, Dawn M. Bearb of Lafayette, Renee Vittorio of Angola and Kimberly Breedlove of Central; his mother, Dee Courts-Fontenot of Jennings; his grandchildren, Heather Smith, Kenneth Toney, Trey Bearb, Zackary Bearb, Courtney Vittorio, Lauren Vittorio, Andrew Vittorio, Chad Vittorio, Madison “Alex” Badon and Ashlyn Courts; and his great-grandchildren, Korey Toney, Dawson Whitstine, Brennan Vittorio, Bryce Vittorio and Carson “CJ” Vittorio.

He was preceded in death by his father, Esse Courts, who died in WWII; and his adopted father, Cleben Joseph “CJ” Fontenot; and his second wife, Debbie Dyal Courts.

Pallbearers will be Chad Vittorio, Otis “Buddy” Ratcliff, Frank McGraw, Trey Bearb, Zackary Bearb, Robert Daniel Jr., Geoffrey Daniel and Robert Daniel III.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Cole, Kenneth Toney, Joe Courts, Dr. Robert Antoon, Jay Labatut, Mary Labatut and Dr. Billy Cannon.

He proudly served in the US Army; he was a Dean’s List graduate of ULM at Monroe Pharmacy School; past national vice-president of U.S. Jaycees and lifetime senator of U.S. Jaycees; and assistant director of tourism.
