Gilford Joseph Cormier
Funeral services for Gilford Joseph Cormier, 56, of Jennings, will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at 10 a.m. with Reverend Buddy Howard officiating.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday at 8 a.m. until the time of his services. Gilford will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery.
Gilford was born on Nov. 15, 1957, in Winnie, Texas, to the late Joseph Charles and the late Marie Adams Cormier and was called to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014.
Gilford loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed being outdoors and camping. Gilford also loved to cook and dance. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gilford is survived by the love of his life, Amanda Durkes Cormier of Jennings; two sons, Nicholas Cormier of Jennings and Matthew (Kassie) Cormier, also of Jennings; two daughters, Falisha (James) Trahan of Jennings and Tracey (Edward Jr.) Mire of Evangeline; two stepdaughters, Kristen (Terry) Thompson of Jennings and Lauren Kershaw of Lake Arthur; two brothers, John Cormier of Little Rock, Ark., and Jerry Cormier of Jennings; four sisters, Rena Touchet of Abbeville, Rose Cormier of Lake Charles, Audrey Morvant of Crowley and Maggie Adams of Jennings; a granddaughter, Jade Viator, daughter of Angelica Cormier; and 16 other grandchildren.
Gilford was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Charles and Marie Cormier; one daughter, Angelica Cormier; and one brother, Steve Cormier.
Carrying Gilford to his final resting place in Greenwood Cemetery will be Ryan Crochet, Darcy Doucet, Edward Mire Jr., Bradley Durkes, Tommy Durkes and Cedric Myers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Doucet, Wilson Mallet and Winston Guillory.
