Funeral services for Kenneth “Ken” Chelette, 90, of Jennings, will be held on August 26, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
The family requests visitation to be held on Monday, August 25, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday at 9 a.m. and will continue until the time of his services at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Ken passed from this life on August 22, 2014.
Ken was born in Deridder to the late Richard M. and Hattie Riley Chelette on July 10, 1924. Ken held many positons over the years, sales rep. for Stedman Wholesale Grocery, manager of Gibson Department Store, administrator of the Jeff Davis Nursing Home for a number of years and retiring with 7UP Bottling Company. Ken was also a deacon as well as a Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church of Jennings. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Welcoming Center. Ken also enjoyed being a volunteer for the Blue Angels at the Jennings American Legion Hospital. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ken is survived by his beloved wife, Frances Rice Chelette of Jennings; two sons, Darrel (Terri) Chelette of Houston, Texas, and David (Becky) Chelette of Denham Springs; one daughter, Danah Lewis of Crowley; one sister, Janice Welch of Nyle, Ohio; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Hattie Chelette; one brother Herman Chelette; and two sisters, Katherine Chelette and Wanda Nell Farque.
