What’s happening where you are?

Reading the front page of this daily newspaper, you probably know there are many places where Jennings Daily News (JDN) reporters spend their time: city halls and board meetings; law enforcement offices; scenes of crashes and crimes; major public events; and a little bit of everything in between.

The problem is, there are many places our reporters simply cannot be – which is why we want you, our valued readers, to help us spread the word about events and activities that take place every day in our community.

The pages of the JDN are not simply for its writers to tell stories, but for the people of Jeff Davis Parish (JDP) to share stories, as well. Not every story is told in words, either; as the old adage goes, “A picture is worth a thousand words.”

Civic clubs are invited to submit pictures from meetings or club-sponsored events, or even a short write-up on the success of a fundraiser or why members support a certain cause. Maybe you are a school teacher or employee and a few students are working on a unique art project or are prepping the halls for homecoming week; go ahead and snap a picture and send it to us. School clubs can send us a summary of their meetings each month, too. You might be visiting your grandparents and take a picture of them harvesting dozens of veggies from their own backyard. Or you take a picture of the kids enjoying crabbing at Rockefeller Refuge.

Hey, maybe you can even get a picture of Mickey Mouse holding a copy of the JDN when you and your family head to Disney.

Our staff truly enjoys bringing the news to all of our readers but, unfortunately, we cannot attend all local events, even though everything that takes place in JDP is important and makes a difference. But we do hope you accept our invitation to help us share the news by sharing the moments from your life – whether those moments take place in a meeting, classroom, office, church, park or even another state or country.

If you would like to submit a picture or write-up for possible publication, email jdne...@bellsouth.net or drop off or mail items to 238 Market Street in Jennings (70546). Separate guidelines apply to items such as wedding, engagement, anniversary, birth and birthday announcements, but feel free to call us at 824-3011 with questions regarding submissions.

We look forward to seeing what is taking place within our JDP communities through your eyes!
