NEW YORK (AP) — People hoping to leave problems and bad memories behind with the waning year have converged on Times Square for “Good Riddance Day.” It's a promotional pre-New Year’s Eve event that offers the public a chance to, at least symbolically, throw out burdens and peeves. On Thursday, people wrote down things they hoped to leave behind, and a magician set the papers ablaze with a grill lighter. What were some of those things? Anger issues, medical bills, work stress, insecurities, taxes and regrets. People also listed bad habits, bad hair days, COVID19, worrying about what other people think and the “negativity of 2023.”
