Several water games were held, and Welsh Librarian Kayla Dupuis received a pie in the face and a hair cut from the kids with the most Accelerated Reader points.

The members took turns carrying a 12-foot cross and praying the Rosary. The Walk wrapped up today with a Mass in Prairie Ronde.

LACASSINE – Thirty-nine seniors from the Class of 2013 officially concluded their high school careers during Lacassine High School’s 72nd annual graduation exercise held Thursday evening at the John Juneau Gymnasium.

The graduates chose their class flower, the Magnolia, and their class colors, red and white, while the class song was “I’ll Always Remember You.”

Zeb Johnson made sure the men and women who protect and serve the community were taken care of by providing them with a free barbecue pork dinners all day Thursday. The meal was sponsored by and held at Miguez Funeral Home. Also, a Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony was held Thursday evening at Emergency Services Memorial Park to honor those, living and deceased, who risk their lives daily for the safety of all citizens

LAKE CHARLES – An Elton teen is dead and two others are critically injured after a two-vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of La. 397 and La. 14 in Lake Charles Thursday morning.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop D Sgt. James Anderson, 18-year-old Kennedy Renee Isaac of Elton was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima around 7 a.m. Thursday when she failed to stop at a stop sign on Ward Line Road.

WELSH – Greyhound Stadium here was the home of a celebration Wednesday night as the Welsh High School Class of 2013 headed into the real world.

This year’s class was led academically by valedictorians Haden Ardoin, Sara Guidry, Kaitlyn Landry, Gabrielle Watkins and Madalyn Pousson, as well as salutatorian Maggie Frey.

A Tuesday morning house fire in Jennings is being investigated as a possible arson.

Fire Chief Hulin Theriot said his department received a call around 3:50 a.m. Tuesday about a home located at 407 South Broadway Street that was on fire near the rear of the residence.

The Jennings High School (JHS) Class of 2013 sent off 117 new alumni out into the world Tuesday night at Jerry Simmons Stadium during the school’s 110th commencement exercise.

Friends and family were in attendance as graduating seniors began the next chapter of their lives.

The graduates selected maroon and white as their class colors, while picking red and white roses as their class flowers. The class motto was: “Life brings tears, smiles and memories. The tears dry, the smiles fade, but the memories last forever.” The class song was “Say Goodbye,” by Boyz II Men.
