The Bulldogs completed their first week of spring football practice this week, with the team appearing to pick up right where they left off last season, according to Head Dog Rusty Phelps. Phelps said the team has been focusing on the fundamentals and will continue practices at 3:30 p.m. daily next week, with first team versus first team and second team versus second team scrimmages held at the end of each practice.

Meanwhile, the Welsh Greyhounds also hit the field all week to gear up for their own upcoming season. Their annual Red-Black Scrimmage, also known as the Soap and Towel Scrimmage, was set for 6 p.m. today, Friday, at Welsh High School. Due to inclement weather, the scrimmage has been postponed and rescheduled for next Thursday, May 16, at 6 p.m. Admission is soap or towels.

Well Hooked Bass Club (WHBC) was started in 2012 by a handful of experienced anglers with a vision slightly different than the norm. Staying true to their philosophy to make the club less committal and more professional has attracted bass fishermen and sponsors from all over Southwest Louisiana to get involved. Now, halfway through its second season, membership has climbed to 36 people.

“The sponsors and members truly make this club special,” said club President George Thompson. “Everyone is very professional, fun to be around and open minded. We all share the same passion for the sport of bass fishing. Some join to learn and sharpen their angling skills; for others, it’s the camaraderie or competition.”
