JHS Operation Graduation Meeting
Jennings High School will have an Operation Graduation meeting for all parents of a JHS senior at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at First Baptist Church on Cary Avenue.
Tongues of Fire
Horace Thibodeaux will be speaking at the Tongues of Fire Prayer Group meeting on Thursday, Feb. 2. The meeting is held in the Family Room at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 7 p.m.

OLI Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
Join OLI 3rd-8th graders at 8 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, in the Oratory to pray during Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The public is invited to attend.

Enchanted Winter Evening
St. Francis School will host its annual Enchanted Evening dinner, dance and auction Saturday, Feb. 4, at the KC Hall in Crowley. Social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. and a crawfish fettucini with trimmings dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Entertainment by the band Ambush, featuring Robbie Latiolais and crew, will start at 6 p.m. as well. Lake Arthur Mardi Gras Cancer Ball
Lake Arthur will host a Mardi Gras Cancer Ball on Feb. 4, to benefit people suffering from cancer in the area. The ball will take place at the Lake Arthur Community Center. The tickets cost $50 and can be purchased at Lake Arthur City Hall. For more information, call City Hall (337) 774-2211.

Lions Club Auction
The Jennings Lions club will team up with hundreds of local volunteers to host the annual Lions Club Auction for charity on from 6-10 p.m. on Monday Feb. 6 and Tuesday Feb. 7. Buyers can watch the event on television on Channel 11 or listen to the auction on KJEF 1290 AM. A complete list of items up for auction will be posted in the Sunday, Feb. 5 edition of the Jennings Daily News.

AARP Driving Class
The Driver Safety Program of AARP will host a four-hour driver refresher course at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6. Cost is $12 for AARP members
(AARP card required) and $14 for non-members. No written or driving

The Jeff Davis Parish Book Club discussion group will meet at the Carnegie Library in Jennings on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. to discuss the book “Cage of Stars” by Jacqueline Mitchard. American Legion Meeting
The James O. Hall Post 19 of the American Legion will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7, beginning at 6 p.m. The meeting will be conducted at the American Legion Hall located at 111 N. Market Street in Jennings. The Post's Ladies Auxiliary will also meet on the same date and at the same time and location. Any military veteran who is considering joining the Legion is invited to attend the Post's meeting in order to find out more about this patriotic organization. HHS Pre-k, K Roundup
Pre-K and kindergarten roundup for Hathaway High School will be held on Feb. 10, from 9-11 a.m. in the Hathaway High School Library. One parent must accompany each child for the registration and must have the following items: child's social security card, up-do-date health (vaccination) records, state certified birth certificate, proof of residency in the HHS district and custody papers, if applicable. Lake Arthur Mardi Gras Parade and Run
Lake Arthur will celebrate Mardi Gras on Saturday, Feb. 11. The day’s festivities include a Mardi Gras run, which kicks off at 9 a.m. at LA Park with registration for the run beginning at 7 a.m. at the LA Park the for the floats and at the Monlezun Boat Dock for horses and wagons. The parade will start rolling down Arthur Avenue at 2 p.m. The line-up for the parade only at 1:30 p.m. at Seventh Street. After the parade, there will be a Children’s Chicken Chase at LA Park. FES Roundup
Fenton Elementary School will hold its annual Pre-K and Kindergarten Roundup for the 2012-13 school year at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16 at the school. Pre-K students must turn four and new kindergarten students must turn five years old years old on or before Sept. 30, 2012 to qualify. Students do not need to be present to enroll. Parents will need to provide a birth certificate, shot records and social security card on this day.

Crew de Wise Party
The Jeff Davis Council on Aging will host its annual Crew de Wise Mardi Gras Party from 8 a.m. until noon Friday, Feb. 17, at the Lacassine Community Center. Squeezebox Shootout
The seventh annual Squeezebox Shootout will be held Saturday, Feb. 18. There is no entry fee for the contest, but accordionists must register in order to compete. Jennings Mardi Gras
The Jennings Mardi Gras Parade will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, on Main Street. There is no entry fee for floats but registration is required. From 10:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m., food and crafts will be on sale in and near Founders Park. The Strand Theatre opens at 11 a.m. to welcome guests for the Squeezebox Shootout Accordion Championship at 11:30 a.m. From 1-4 p.m., Cajun August Broussard and Friends will perform live on stage in Founders Park. After the parade, Muzic Unlimited will close out the festivities from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Founders Park. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church will host its annual fish fry on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22. LAES Roundup
Lake Arthur Elementary will hold its annual pre-k and kindergarten roundup for the 2012-2013 year on Tuesday, March 27. Parents are to report to the LAES All-Purpose/Gym between 8:30 a.m. until noon with a copy of their child's birth certificate, shot record and Social Security card. Parents are asked not to bring their children with them unless they have speech concerns. The speech therapist will be available to screen the children. There will be no vision and hearing screenings. School nurses will be checking shot records. To register for kindergarten, children must be five years old by Sept. 30, 2012. To register for pre-k, children must be four years old on or before Sept. 30, 2012. Parents should be prepared to give proof of residence if needed or required.
