Local DSS office on chopping block?

Could the Jeff Davis Parish office of the Department of Social Services (DSS) see closure due to upcoming state budget cuts? That’s the concern of the Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury, which will be drafting a resolution to Gov. Bobby Jindal and the parish’s legislators to protest any possible shutdown.
At Wednesday’s agenda meeting, Jury President Donald Woods said he was told by a “reliable source” that the DSS office – which houses the parish’s welfare, food stamp and child services programs on East Plaquemine Street – could see its operations moved 30 miles away to Oberlin in Allen Parish.
