WELSH – Over two dozen Lacassine- and Welsh-area residents are expressing their frustration over an oilfield waste treatment facility’s request to be able to discharge runoff stormwater into public drainage ditches.
Those residents attended a public hearing held by the state Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) at the Welsh Community Center Thursday. The company in question, Texas-based MBO, Inc., doing business as Lacassine Oilfield Services, is asking the DEQ to allow the discharge of the stormwater into a drainage ditch that services residents along Gro Racca Road, Pinehill Cemetery Road and La. 101 north of Lacassine. The DEQ’s official studies state that the discharge should have “no adverse impacts” on the ditches or the areas into which it drains.
