Bulldog trio signs with Northwestern
Jennings High School seniors Kris Watkins, Dylan Lavergne and Michael Ringuet helped lead the 2011 edition of the Jennings Bulldog football team to a 4-1 district record and 10-3 season slate after advancing to the quarterfinal round of the Class 3A playoffs. However, their football careers are not quite finished. Upon graduation, Watkins, Lavergne and Ringuet will attend Northwestern State University, where they will suit up for the Demons in the 2012 season. »
MSU earns win in battle of JHS grads
LAKE CHARLES - The McNeese Lady Cowgirls’ offense found their rhythm in the second half of taking a 57-48 win over the visiting Sam Houston State Lady Bearkats Wednesday.
The game improves the Cowgirls’ record to 17-5 overall and 7-1 in the Southland Conference. The game was also a battle of two former Jennings Lady Bulldog players who are now head coaches for the rival teams. Brooks Donald-Williams is in her fifth season as the Lady Cowgirls’ coach, while Brenda Welch-Nichols is in her sixth season as head coach of the Lady Bearkats. »
Bulldogs on a roll; ladies stumble
The Jennings Bulldogs welcomed arch-district rival Westlake in the second round of district play. In boys’ action, the Bulldogs breezed past the Rams 66-45, outscoring them by 17 points in the second half. The Bulldogs improved to 16-10 and 5-2 in district play. In girls’ action, the Lady Bulldogs couldn’t get in the game and fell to the Lady Rams 64-40. The Lady Bulldogs’ record stands at 12-13 and 4-3 in district play.
JHS 66, Westlake 45 (Boys)
The visiting Rams got off to a two-zip start by netting a jumper. After several attempts, the Bulldogs answered with an 11-0 scoring run fueled by consecutive treys by Chris Perkins and a trey hit by Milton Hall. Marvin Williams added a jumper inside and pushed the lead for the Bulldogs to 11-2 with 5:16 remaining in the first quarter. The Rams countered with a 7-0 run and got within a deuce of the Bulldogs. Free throws by Draylan Perkins and a dunk by Malik Williams put the home team back up by six points. Chris Perkins ended the quarter by nailing a trey from the corner to send the Bulldogs ahead 18-11 going into the second quarter. »
