Lady Dogs fall to Vandebilt in Class 4A title game
HAMMOND – The Jennings Lady Bulldogs will have to wait at least one more year for another shot at a state title, as they fell in the Class 4A title game to the No. 1-seeded Vandebilt Catholic Lady Terriers 70-51 here Saturday night at the Southeastern Louisiana University Center. The last time Jennings won a state title was when they captured back-to-back Class 3A titles in 1988 and 1989.
Vandebilt quickly built an early lead in the first when they outscored Jennings 25-11. Vandebilt’s 6’5” center Theresa Plaisance led the Lady Terriers, as she put up a total of eight points in the opening frame. »
Hathaway falls to Fairview
HAMMOND – Hathaway’s hopes of a Ladies Top 28 title collapsed in the first quarter against three-time defending Class B Champion Fairview Thursday.
The Lady Panthers dominated from the opening tip-off, scoring on their first five possessions. On the other side of the court, Hathaway turned the ball over on five consecutive possessions to start the game thanks to Fairview’s full court pressure defense. »
Midland one win away from Boys Top 28
MIDLAND – The Class B Midland Rebels are the last local boys basketball team still alive in the state playoffs, as they will be facing the Hornbeck Hornets Friday night in the quarterfinal round for a chance to make a return trip to the Boys Top 28 Tournament at the Lafayette Cajundome. The Rebels made their last trip to the Top 28 in 2004.
