Dr. Shanna Tiffany Lewis of West Monroe and Aaron Seth Simon of Gueydan were united in holy matrimony on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Lake Charles. Phil Caddy was the organist. Loretta Spell sang “Ave Maria,” “The Lord’s Prayer,” and Tiffany’s Grandmother Lewis’s favorite song, “Amazing Grace.”
Tiffany is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Lewis of West Monroe. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orion A. Olson of Richland Center, Wis., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Lewis Sr. of Monroe. The groom is the son of Janet Simon and the late Israel “B. D.” Simon of Gueydan. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Israel Simon Sr. of Gueydan. Aaron is also the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Courville of Jennings.
The bride wore a white-satin gown with corseted back and halter-style neckline. The chapel length train was sprinkled with beads and lace, as was the split skirt. A scarlet sash, held in front by a beaded medallion, was looped over at the laced-up back of the bodice and ran the entire length of the train. The bride’s veil was trimmed in scarlet red ribbon and studded with red Swavorski crystals. Completing the bridal ensemble was a pair of scarlet-satin slippers. The bride carried a cascading bouquet of red Freedom roses, Black Magic calla lilies, red Hypericum berries and red Peruvian lilies. Tiffany carried something blue and something borrowed as she walked down the aisle. Her bouquet contained a crystal-blue earring from her late great grandmother that was intertwined in a secret spot on her flowers. Her wedding dress contained something borrowed as her bustle was fashioned out of a piece of her sister’s wedding dress.
Alicia Dale Lewis Smith, sister of the bride, served as matron of honor. The bridesmatrons were godmother and sister to the groom, Bridget Woods of Jennings; sister to the groom, Marilyn Istre of Gueydan; Dr. Amanda Saltzman of Lake Charles; Dr. Carli Nesheiwat of Germantown, Tenn.; Julie Wise of Monroe; and Melissa Beaugh of Lake Charles. The bridesmaids were nieces to the groom, Amber Simon of Jacksonville, Fla. and Kensey Istre of Gueydan. The matrons and maids wore mock two-piece gowns by Jim Hjelm. Their trumpet skirts were made of black satin and the bodices were in white satin covered with black lace. The matrons and maids carried matching round nosegays of white Akido roses with red and white Peruvian lilies tied with French chiffon ribbon. Anna Leigh Saltzman, the flower girl, wore a white dress with dainty white flowers, lattice-design on the skirt, and gossamer-covered bodice.
Darron Simon, brother of the groom, served as best man. Bryce Simon, son of the groom, served as junior best man. The groomsmen were Andy Saltzman of Lake Charles; brother of the groom, Toby Simon of Henderson, Nev.; Casey Hungerford of Lafayette; Galen Simon of Lake Charles; Peter Woods of Iowa; Dr. Chad Broussard of Lafayette; and Jonathan Smith of West Monroe. The ring bearer was son of the groom, Gage Simon. Ian Woods and Dr. Joe Nesheiwat were ushers.
Prior to the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was held at Mazen’s where the diners enjoyed an open menu, speeches, and a video honoring Tiffany’s and Aaron’s lives.
Immediately following the wedding, a reception was held at Treasures of Marilyn. White covered tables were draped with black lace tablecloths and decorated with mirrors, candles, and tall rose-filled vases. Food was abundant, consisting of delicious Cajun cuisine, red punch fountains, champagne, margarittas, chocolate fountains, fruits and cheeses. A square four-layer wedding cake was made of red-velvet covered by almond-butter cream icing. Red roses and black ribbons completed the cake as delicate scroll work graced the frosting. To top off the decorations, a giant ice sculpture was hand-carved and filled with dozens of live red roses.
A groom’s table was complete with duck blinds, a full-size pirogue, duck decoys, and a three-layer chocolate groom’s cake. The theme was in honor of the groom’s hometown of Gueydan, where the groom met his bride-to-be at the Duck Festival.
Following a week-long honeymoon in the Bahamas, the couple will make their home in Lake Charles.
