Jennings Officer Makes First Arrest

Daily News photos by Sheila Smith

Jennings Police Department (JPD) officer Blaize Richard, 18, made his first “arrest” Saturday evening on State Street with the assistance of JPD Lt. Mike Hill. The capture was actually a mock arrest staged by the JPD and Jennings Fire Department. Richard recently made national headlines after Hill made the young man his “backup”. Richard has always dreamed of becoming a police officer but is autistic and lives with mental disabilities. This Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. at the Louisiana Oil and Gas Park, Blaize Richard Day will be celebrated with the public and law enforcement members as the JPD makes Richard its very first honorary police officer.
