Residents Thankful for Help During Flood

Dear Editor,

I’m composing this letter to publicly thank several people who were instrumental in just literally saving my home during the recent flooding that ravaged the Mermentau Cove area of Acadia Parish.

Without their help and thoughts, I would, without a doubt, had my home flooded along with thousands of dollars in damage.

I know, to a person, that each of these people would not have asked for compensation or even recognition for their good deed but I felt it tantamount that their good deeds be publicly recognized.

None of these people did what they did for recognition or even payment. They helped me out of the goodness of heart. I will never be able to thank them enough.

I would like to thank the father and son-in-law who dug and built a levee and trench around my home to fend off flooding waters. I would like to thank the husband and wife who let me use their boat and purchased a pump at his expense, allowing me to get around and also get some much needed rest. I would like to thank my brother-in-law and his son who helped me maintain the levee and add to it and the man who lent us the use of his three-inch drain pump at no charge.

And finally, my son, who worked selflessly and gave of his time to help his dear old dad and his wife who provided nourishment for the “workers.”

I also want to say thank you to numerous people who either called to offer help or express concern. All these people have earned my eternal thanks and their efforts and concern will forever be appreciated.

LeeRoy Smith
