Reader Shares Views on Tolerance

Dear Editor,

Today, we need to look around just to see what’s going on. Take our children and look what is being taught to them. There is one thing that is being taught to our children in all grades. From history to literature to mathematics, they are learning tolerance.

Many will say it is wonderful because we are all in favor of tolerance.

Here is what tolerance was originally defined: It means we are willing to bear with those views or lifestyles that are different from ours without our agreeing with them. Christians should be tolerant in the correct and historical meaning of that world.

The problem is that this “new tolerance” means this: not only do you put up with, endure and bear with those who have different views, habits and/or lifestyles than your own, but you agree with their views. All of this begins with the idea that there is no absolute truth.

This view is the last virtue of a depraved society. This new groups says what they are doing is not wrong. They say that they are no longer the evil person – you and I are evil.

So they say that evil is good and good is evil, this is the beginning of the end. We need to stand up for Jesus and show some backbone while we still have a place to stand (Isaiah 5:20).
