Mass for election of Pope Francis set

LAKE CHARLES – His Excellency, The Most Reverend Glen John Provost, Bishop of Lake Charles, will be the celebrant of a Mass of Thanksgiving for the election of Pope Francis, at 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 18, in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.

His Holiness, Pope Francis will be installed as the 266th Pope on the Solemnity of St. Joseph, patron of the universal Church, on Tuesday, March 19, in St. Peter’s Square.

“It was with great joy that the world received the news on Wednesday, March 13, Habemus Papem!” Bishop Provost said. “As Pope Francis begins his ministry as the Bishop of Rome and the Supreme Pontiff on Tuesday, March 19, the Solemnity of Saint Joseph; the world will be in prayer for him that God may sustain him, enlighten him, and protect in body and spirit throughout his time as the Servant of the servants of Christ.

“I invite the faithful of the Diocese of Lake Charles to join me in prayer for Pope Francis on Monday, March 18, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church on the eve of his Installation Mass as the

Bishop of Rome,” Bishop Provost continued. “May our Lady the Star of the New Evangelization guide our Holy Father in his ministry as we entrust ourselves to her maternal care.”
