Relay Committee Thankful for Assistance

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the American Cancer Society, Jeff Davis Parish Relay for Life Committee, Optimist Club Team and Relay for Life Golf Tournament Committee, I would like to express a great big “Thank you” to everyone that helped make the seventh annual Relay for Life Golf tournament a huge success.

I would like to thank the committee and commend them on a job well done. The committee included Ted Cox, Donnie Hearon, Beau Hearod, Blaine Spell, Troy Gary, Terry Duhon and Willard Armentor. Thanks again for a job well done. I would also like to thank Lola Bertrand, Bertha Mayo, Martha St. Germain, Lenzie Dupuis, Kerri Chiasson, Meggin Hawkins, Tammy Grayson, Boogie Grayson, Hilda Broussard, Carolyn Barker, Maijalai Guillory, Mona Quebodeaux and Barbara St. Pierre for their help on the course the day of the event. Without this team effort, the seventh annual Relay for Life Golf Tournament would not have been such a success.

A donation in the amount of $7,000 was given to the American Cancer Society to help fund cancer research and provide valuable services to the patients and their family in Jeff Davis Parish.

I would like to thank the Hole-In-One sponsor for sponsoring the 2013 Jeep Wrangler hole-in-one prize. Additional prizes for a hole-in-one were a $500 Visa gift card, a set of Cleveland Black Pearl Irons and a Kindle Fire. We regret to report, no hole-in-one prizes were won during the tournament.

Thank you to local businesses and individuals who were very giving when asked to help sponsor this event. Without hesitation, they gladly stepped up to the tee for the cause. We had eight Gold sponsors, one Silver sponsor and one Bronze sponsor (see “Thank You” article in today’s edition for listing). We also had thirty-seven Hole sponsors.

What would a beautiful spring day on the golf course be like without food and drinks for the 30 three-man teams and volunteers that came out to support the cause? I greatly appreciated the food and drink donations made by various local businesses. There was plenty of food and drinks for all of the golfers and volunteers to enjoy.

Cash prizes were presented to the closest to the hole and longest drive. There were also cash prizes for the first, second and third place net and gross teams. Every golfer received a dittie bag and the raffle consisted of over 27 items. We say “Thank You” to everyone that helped by donating these items.

Thank you to the Jennings Golf Club and its membership for allowing the tournament to be played on their course. I would also like to thank everyone that donated their time, talent, funds and equipment to make the seventh annual Relay for Life Golf Tournament such a “’fun’raiser.” I look forward to seeing everyone next year at the Relay for Life Golf Tournament in 2014.

Although the golf tournament and Relay for Life in Jeff Davis Parish for 2013 is behind us, we should never stop praying for the patients, their families and a cure for the deadly disease.
