Lafayette woman jailed for trafficking minor

A Lafayette woman was jailed Monday, accused of selling a minor for sexual acts, the same day Gov. Bobby Jindal signed two bills into law aimed at guarding against human trafficking in Louisiana.

According to a press release from Louisiana State Police Troop I Sgt. Steven Hammons, several weeks ago, detectives in the Lafayette Field Office received information that 37-year-old Katherine Vidrine of Lafayette had used a child under the age of 12 to engage in sexual acts for monetary gain. The complaint indicated that the sexual acts involving the child took place about four years ago at locations throughout Lafayette Parish. As detectives’ investigation into the complaint continued, it was learned that Vidrine was present during some of the sexual acts.
