Local Chastises Landrieu

Dear Editor,

Senator Landrieu:

What are you afraid of?

You were in Jennings on Aug. 12, 2013, for what had been billed as a Town Hall Meeting. That implies a meeting where constituents can ask serious questions about government issues and get answers from an elected “leader”. I have been to such meetings with Rep. Boustany and Sen. Vitter before, and they had both the class and the courage to take questions and provide reasoned answers whether the public fully agreed with those answers or not.

Instead of conducting such a meeting, you held a campaign event without taking any questions or providing any information regarding your stance on major issues of the day. By doing so, you displayed a personal arrogance as well as complete contempt for your constituents. Some campaign rhetoric by a district attorney, some fluff with some honorable WWII veterans, smiles, and a walk out the door. You wasted over two hours of my valuable time.

In other words, a perfectly disgraceful performance. You arrived late and spent little more than 30 minutes doing nothing worthwhile at all but campaigning.

I and others had very pertinent and valid questions that never could be asked, much less answered. Were you afraid of these questions? Could you not provide an intelligent defense of your positions?

You should be ashamed; but one thing I have come to realize is that politicians have no shame and it’s worse the higher the elected office. If for no other reason than the contempt you displayed toward your constituents at this meeting, you deserve to be replaced next year.
