Verbie Mae “Sister” Green was born March 25, 1929, to Nace and Berdie Kauogh Green. Verbie was baptized at an early age at New Jerusalem Baptist Church and stayed faithful until her health failed in May of 2009. She was a member of the mission board. She was known as the cornbread lady whenever a dinner for the church was planned.

Verbie was preceded in death by her parents, Nace and Berdie Green; and two brothers, Joshua Green and Hayward Green Sr.

She loved her family and always had something good to say about everyone.

Verbie leaves to cherish her memories her son, Ronnie R. Greene; a daughter, Barbara (Hebert) Batise, both of Welsh; five grandsons, Charlie, Riley, Albert, Eugene and Ja’Coby; six great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; three lifelong friends, Willie B. George, Lucy Tanner and Ida Pite; and two first cousins, Willie Green Jr. of Port Arthur, Texas, and Wilbert Gil Sr. of Jennings.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, from 8-10 a.m. at New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Welsh, with funeral services following thereafter. Burial will be at Eastridge Cemetery in Welsh, under the direction of King’s Funeral Home.
