Fire up the pit

JFD prepares for annual fundraiser

Daily News Staff Writer

The Jennings Fire Department (JFD) will be selling tickets this month for its annual barbecue plate lunch sale on Nov. 3. For the next four weeks, firemen will be selling tickets at the central station and walking door to door on Tuesday and Thursday nights asking the public to support a group that could one day potentially save their lives.

The fundraiser has a long history of community support going back to the late seventies. Along with the help of the city and local businessmen, the initial barbecue lunch sales funded the first rescue truck and rescue tools the department ever bought. The vital tool, “the jaws of life,” which saves people from crushed cars and buildings, was purchased through this fundraiser’s proceeds.
