Unrestrained driver dies in crash

MIDLAND – A Mermentau man was killed and a Jennings teen was injured during a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 90 east Wednesday evening.

Christopher Legros, 37, of Mermentau was driving a 2008 Chevrolet passenger car east on U.S. 90 just west of La. 91 at a high rate of speed. At approximately 6:50 p.m., Legros, for unknown reasons, traveled off the left side of the road and struck a tree. He was not restrained and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish coroner. A passenger in his vehicle, 19-year-old Mariah Davis of Jennings, was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.  Davis was restrained when the crash occurred.
