Dogs’ next showdown for district title

Bulldog Bites

Captains: Seniors Brance Baca-White and Chayden Cormier were team captains.

Coin Toss: The Bulldogs lost the toss for the seventh time this season and received the opening kickoff.

Game Ball: The game ball goes to the Maroon Wall for holding the explosive Yellow Jackets offense to 80 yards rushing.

Big Play: Joey Scogin recovered an onside/pooch kick for the Bulldogs to start the second half.

Longest Drive: The Dogs drove 70 yards in 12 plays for their first touchdown to tie the score.

Longest Run: Kaleb Chaisson had a 61-yard scoring run to give the Dogs the lead that they would not relinquish. For good measure, Lemontay Mouton had a 58-yard romp for the Dogs’ last touchdown.

Longest Pass: Kaleb Chaisson threw a 34-yard scoring toss to Malik Williams.

Longest Return: Malik Williams returned a Yellow Jacket punt 34 yards to set up the Dogs’ third touchdown.

100-Yard Rusher: Lemontay Mouton gained 144 yards on 21 carries.

Wild Dog: Fans have been waiting all season to see Jennings in the Wild Dog. We’ve yet to see it on Friday night. They needed to be at the freshman game last week to see David Reed’s Pups in the Wild Dog. Loved it.

Turnovers: Neither Jennings or Iowa turned the ball over, but Joey Scogin did recover an onside/pooch kick. Jennings is plus-six in the turnover battle this season.

Penalties: The game was very well played by both teams. Iowa was flagged three times for 20 yards and the Dogs were flagged once for a yard and a half.

First Downs: Jennings had 11 first downs and Iowa mustered eight first downs.

Champions: The Bulldogs clinched at least a tie for the district championship with their win over Iowa. They last shared the league title in 2005 and 2006 with Iowa. A win Friday night over Westlake will allow the Dogs to take the title outright for the first time since 2002.

Old Dog: Julius “Tee” Lyons was the old Dog and Bryson Abraham, now playing for La. Tech, was the young Dog.

Old Bulldette: Polly Simar Bonin and her groom, George, enjoyed the contest.

Series: Jennings leads the series 16-4. Jennings has won the last six games between the two schools.

Streaks: The Dogs have won their last five games and have a four-game district winning streak.

Taste of the Town: Thanks to Bob Caswell for the sausage poboy.

On Deck: Jennings will close out the regular season in the Dog Pound when they host the Westlake Rams in a huge district encounter.

Teacher-Pupil: The Westlake Rams’ leader is head coach Shawn Demeritt. He was on head Dog Rusty Phelps’ staff as an assistant coach.

Special Night: The seniors will be honored Friday night before the game.

Coaching Tree: Former Jennings assistant coaches Shawn Demeritt (Westlake) and Vaughn Eggelston won  games Friday night.

Looking Good: Jennings Parks and Recreation Director Brian Benoit is having the city’s tennis courts resurfaced and they are looking sweet.

Happy Birthday: Happy Birthday to Maw-Maw Deola Daigle. Hope it’s a great one.
