Calendar Guidelines

Items for Community Calendar must be submitted in writing during regular weekday business hours at least two weeks prior to the day of the event. We will make every effort to run the item twice before the event, though it should be noted all events run in the order of their posted dates and only as space allows. Events more than two weeks away may not run until closer to the event. Each event should feature no more than two contact phone numbers. Community Calendar is offered as a public service bulletin for Jeff Davis Parish community and non-profit events. Send entries to To publicize your event in a specific way on certain days, call 824-3011 to speak to an advertising representative.


Jennings Girls’ Little Dribblers

Registration forms for Jennings Girls’ Little Dribblers are due Jan. 19. Forms will be given out at school for girls who will be between the ages of 7-14 by Aug. 31, or they may be picked up at Stine’s Lumber. Cost is $15 per child and a 12-pack of soda. Team placement will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the James Ward Elementary Gym. January 7

American Legion Meeting

James O. Hall Post 19 of the American Legion will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 7,  at 6 p.m.  The meeting will be conducted at the American Legion Hall located at 111 N. Market Street in Jennings . The Post’s Ladies Auxiliary will also meet on the same date and at the same time and location. Any military veteran who is considering joining the Legion is invited to attend the Post’s meeting in order to find out more about this patriotic organization.  Questions regarding the Legion can be directed to Carl Benoit at 824-0698 or Glenn McFarlain at 824-5556.


January 16

Alzheimer’s In-service

Jeff Davis Council on Aging will host an in-service, “The Stages of Alzheimer’s,” at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 at the COA on State Street in Jennings. The event is for those who need a better understanding of the disease and/or are taking care of someone with the disease. For more info, call Kim Benoit at 824-5504.


January 20

Pancake Supper

Roanoke United Methodist Church’s Pancake Supper will be held on Jan. 20 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. For a donation of $7 per person, each person gets unlimited pancakes, two bacon, two sausage, two eggs and milk, juice and coffee. For more information, call (337) 794-0979.


Women of Connection

The Women of Connection will be meeting every Tuesday from noon until 1 p.m. at Faith Life Church at 123 West Division Street in Jennings. This is women reaching out to the needs of other women, having an open ear and being prayerful to their hurts and needs. Discussion topics and time of sharing are all welcome. Time for Change Narcotics Anonymous

Time for Change Narcotics Anonymous are a group of addicts who meet regularly. Narcotics Anonymous has many years experience with literally hundreds of thousands of addicts and is here to share freely with any addict who wants to recover. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using. Time for Change Narcotics Anonymous group meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Jennings United Methodist Church, 702 Cary Avenue.


Book Club

The Jeff Davis Parish Book Club discussion group will meet in Jennings on Tuesday, Dec. 17th at 10 a.m. to discuss the book “The Noticer Returns” by Andy Andrews. Everyone is invited to join. Morning Call Al-Anon

The Al- Anon Family Groups are a fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength, and hope in order to solve their common problems. Al-Anon has but one purpose: to help families of alcoholics. Morning Call Al-Anon Group meets every Monday at 7 p.m. and Thursday at noon at the Jennings United Methodist Church, 702 Cary Avenue.


Celebrate Recovery

Meetings for Celebrate Recovery, a program of recovery from addictions and co-dependency, will meet every Wednesday at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Lake Arthur and every Thursday at 7 p.m. in the north foyer at Bethel Ministries in Jennings. Join to work through “hurts, hang-ups and habits.” For more information, call (337) 774-3333 for Lake Arthur or 824-5997 for Jennings.


Mental Health Support Group

The NAMI Connections Mental Health Support Group will meet every Wednesday from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Jennings American Legion Hospital in the classroom on the second floor. For more information, call 246-1796 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.


Wig Closet

The Jeff Davis Parish Wig Closet is open for all cancer treatment patients to access free of charges. Free wigs, hats, scarves and more can be selected. The Wig Closet is located at Thibodeaux, Albro and Touchet Therapy Group, 1322 Elton Road, Suite 1 in Jennings. Call 821-5532 for more information.


Compassionate Friends

Compassionate Friends, a self-help support organization for families dealing with the death of a child of any age, meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Women and Children’s Hospital (main entrance, first door to the right). For more information, call Cynthia or Charles Kratzer at 824-0231.


Alzheimer’s Support Group

Jennings Senior Care and The Jeff Davis Council on Aging (COA) will hold an Alzheimer’s disease support group every first Thursday of the month at 1 p.m. The meetings will be held at the COA located at 210 State Street. For more information contact COA at 824-5504.


Vietnam Veterans of America

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1058 will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, (insert date), at the National Guard Armory. The VVA meets on the second Tuesday of each month. For more information, contact VVA Vice President Mike Smith at (337) 580-0598.


Caregiver Support Group (Day)

The Alzheimer’s Associations Support Groups will meet on (insert date), 10 am at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Jennings 1 Hospital Drive, Jennings, LA 70546. The Groups are designed to provide emotional, educational and social support for caregivers through regularly scheduled meetings.
