John Congratulates Landrieu

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the tens of thousands of men and women who work in the oil and gas industry in Louisiana, let me congratulate Sen. Mary Landrieu in being named Chairman of the US Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. Her support of the industry will give a tremendous boost to Louisiana’s economy, will bolster our national security, and should help put Congress on the road to developing sustainable energy policy.

Senator Landrieu will be the first Louisianian to chair the powerful Senate Energy Committee since J. Bennett Johnston held the position nearly two decades ago. However, as a member of the committee, Sen. Landrieu has fought unwarranted tax hikes against domestic energy producers and has been the leading proponent to see that the Gulf Coast states received their fair share of federal dollars derived as a result of offshore drilling. In addition, she has been a tireless supporter of liquefied natural gas which would bring additional jobs and revenue to our state.  She fought the Administration’s moratorium on drilling and opposed her own party when blocking the nomination of Jack Lew to head the OMB until that moratorium was lifted.

She knows the oil and gas industry and she knows what it means for a state like Louisiana and for everyone in our country.  We welcome Sen. Landrieu to the chairmanship of this critically important committee and look forward to working with her in the days and months ahead.
