Funeral services for Dr. Nathar Ray McFarlain, 71, of Jennings, will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at 2 p.m. with Reverend Brian McFarlain officiating.

Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home on Friday, August 15, 2014, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Ray will be laid to rest in Estherwood Cemetery.

Dr. Nathar “Ray” McFarlain, 71, passed away on August 12, 2014, in Lafayette.

Ray was born Aug. 8, 1943, in Jennings, to Oran Joseph McFarlain (deceased) and Catherine Mayola Hoag-Zimmerman (deceased). Ray was an outstanding fixture in ministry, having pastored churches in Texas and Louisiana over the course of three decades, and was the founder and president of Southwest Bible College.  His character was piqued by broad interests, including photography, educational reading, camping, boxing, football and woodworking, but foremost by his passion for sharing his love for God. Ray’s comedic wit and enthusiastic love for his family and friends will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife, LeeAnna McFarlain of Jennings; his stepmother, Betty McFarlain of Palacios, Texas; his mother-in-law, Euella Cormier of Crowley;  a sister, Anne McFarlain of Little Rock, Miss.; a brother, Rickey McFarlain of Harahan; a half-brother, Rodney McFarlain of Gruver, Texas; his stepbrothers, Pete Christmas of Magnolia, Texas, and Billy Christmas of Palacios, Texas; his stepsisters, Donna Padrick of East Alton, Ill., Debbie Cox of Palacios, Texas, and Diana Yackle of La Grange, Texas; his daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and David Hunter of Livingston, Texas; his sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Sulane McFarlain of Magnolia, Texas and Scotty and Suzonna McFarlain of Livingston, Texas; his grandchildren, Garrett Hunter, Courtney McFarlain, Sarah McFarlain, Sheldon Norred, Kaden McFarlain, Jordan McFarlain, Caraline McFarlain and Gavin McFarlain.

Pallbearers will be Garrett Hunter, Sheldon Norred, Kaden McFarlain, Jordan McFarlain, Scotty McFarlain and David Hunter.
